Becky Meissen
Designer / Artist
I am currently living and working professionally in Davenport Iowa, where I have stayed since graduating with a BA in Theatre and Art History with minors in Graphic Design and Art from St. Ambrose University in May of 2022.
When I was around the age of 5, my mom took me to her work to see a production by her college’s theatre program. My mom claims that at the end of the performance, I started bawling my eyes out. Apparently, I did not want the show to be over, and the only way I stopped crying was at my mom’s promise to take me again the following day. Needless to say, I have loved theatre and I haven’t looked back since!
As a kid, I remember what it felt like to go see live theatrical productions. It truly felt(and still does feel) like the world just washed away and I was immersed in the production. Now as an adult, I feel so fortunate to be on the other side of the curtain. Being able to be a part of the creation of bringing these stories to life, allowing our audiences to hopefully have the same experiences is truly amazing. No matter where life takes me, I hope I will always have the opportunity to work artistically to enhance the experience of the person viewing.
My work in theatre has offered me many great experiences that have given me the ability to better myself and my talents as a painter and a designer. With every production, there comes a whole new art project, and that has forced me to try new skills and enhance my painting techniques.
I can’t wait to see what else I get to learn!
Designer’s Statement
“As a designer in the theatre industry, no matter if I'm working on scenic, props or any other element, my overall goal is to illustrate a clarity of the concept of the director’s overall vision and to enhance the world around the performers to create a visual impact for the audience.”
